TIPS ON LICENCE RENEWALS

At a Hunters / SAPS Consultative meeting held in February, Director Bothma complimented accredited hunting associations for the high standard of the applications received from their members lately. It resulted in a significant drop in refusals. He gave the following helpful tips to applicants:

Competency application documents should be kept separate from licence sor re-licencing applications, although it can be handed in simultaneously.

Bind all documents properly and number the pages (eg. page 1 of 50; 2 of 50; 3 of 50, etc). This should minimize the chances of documentation being removed and/or getting lost'.

Ensure that you hand in (as a minimum) all the documents required. The DFO (District Firearms Officer) can ask for additional documentation, but does not have the authority to remove any handed in by applicants. Should a DFO remove documents or refuse to accept them, then report it to your accredited hunting association for immediate follow-up with the DFO, Regional Office or CFft in Pretoria.

On 31 March 2006, 37000 applications for renewals were received countrywide.

Applicants received reference numbers, but documents were not checked andverified.

To speed up the process applicants who did not hand in all the necessary supporting documentation, must do so as soon as possible.

Thousands of new licences are ready for collection at Police stations countrywide. Applicants must contact their DFO's to find out whether their licences are ready for collection.
